Namibia Album 1

Namibia Land Rover Adventure – 2002. In April 2002 we went on a Land Rover Adventure off-road Driving Expedition in Namibia and the accompanying photos are a small bit of what we saw and did. Everyone taking part in the expedition met in Windhoek and then flew north to Mokuti in several small planes. That night we stayed at Mushara Lodge which is just outside the eastern edge of Etosha National Game Reserve. We spent the evening getting familiar with the vehicles, Land Rover Defenders, GPS and portable radios. The first day we drove through Etosha National Park then west to Hobatere Lodge then the next day headed south to Damaraland Camp

Barely out of Etosha National Park and one of our vehicles roles on a gravel road. No injuries but the Land Rover was no longer drivable.

Sunset as we are very late leaving Etosha National Park . After the rollover we were very late arriving at Hobatere Lodge. This was the first of what was to be…
Dried meat – an Eland Bull. The carcass had simply dried up rather than rotting.
Trees Hobatere - I took this picture because of the white tree trunks which were very bright in the sun - Big Leave Chestnut (Sterculia quinqueloba).
Bull elephant, Hobatere Lodge
Evening Hobatere Lodge - Shortly after this picture was taken it got dark and most everyone proceeded to get lost on the way back to the camp.
Big sky country - Leaving Hobatere by the back gate.
We did a lot of driving on the dry river beds. They are the local roads.
River Road - Lots of dust was eaten today.
We saw some very interesting rock formations during the drive
We did not have very many river crossings but this one was the easiest.
This is a wild camel
The view from inside of our tent at Damaraland Camp
Lots of grass and plant life up close and desert like in the hills. The difference is where the rain did and didn't fall.
Our destination for today lays somewhere just beyond the mountain in the background. It is called Burnt Mountain.
